Hunter Labrada: The Dynasty Continues

Editor’s Letter

By Steve Blechman

In the 1980s and early 1990s, one of Lee Haney’s greatest threats to his Mr. Olympia title was Lee Labrada from Texas, known as “Mass with Class.” At just 5-foot-5 and 185 pounds, he was a study in shape, proportion, symmetry, condition, and one of the greatest posers the sport has ever seen. Now, the Labrada legacy continues in his son Hunter. It’s only natural for fans to place incredibly high expectations on the sons of legends, and Hunter did not disappoint. He is the real deal, massive and shapely with the killer condition to back it all up, so impressive that we put him on the cover of this month’s MD.

Blessed with his father’s genetics along with his mother’s height, Hunter’s original passion was football. Luckily for us, it wasn’t long before his love for bodybuilding overpowered his gridiron interests. After winning the 2018 NPC Nationals super heavyweight and overall titles, Hunter took time off to have shoulder surgery and grow in preparation for his pro debut. That day finally came this past summer, as Hunter dominated the 2020 Tampa Pro with dense, ripped mass, excellent shape, and of course masterful presentation. This second-generation pro’s debut had been highly anticipated, and Hunter’s win in Tampa upheld the family tradition of bodybuilding excellence. While he’s already being spoken of a possible top five at the upcoming Mr. Olympia, Hunter has not coasted on his family name or reputation, as we learn in“Hunter Labrada: The Dynasty Continues!”

With Olympia Weekend approaching, MD continues our four-part series this month on George Peterson as this Redcon1 athlete makes his first run on the 212 Olympia title after three consecutive years placing third there in Classic Physique. George’s coach for over four years, Justin Miller, chronicles this journey exclusively for MD readers in “George ‘Da Bull’ Peterson: Road to the Olympia, Part 2, An Object in Motion.”

Bodybuilding at its core is always about self-improvement. We can all continually beat our previous best via targeted, strategic training. MD’s Ron Harris offers some methods to “fix” common physique flaws so that you can take your physique one step closer to its ultimate potential in “Fix Your Physique! 5 Custom Workouts to Bring You Closer to Perfection.”

It’s mind-blowing that a startup supplement company such as Team HD Muscle could come so far, so fast, during a pandemic that’s crippled the world’s economy. But it also goes to show you that with hard work, a genuine desire to help people, and a solid product line, anything is possible. With an all-star lineup of athletes that includes Antoine Vaillant, Jon De La Rosa, Quinton Eriya, Keone Pearson, Steve Laureus, Breon Ansley, Jeremy Potvin, and Rickey Moten, we are witnessing the start of something really big. By the time Elisa “Isa” Pecini was 13, she had developed a full-blown eating disorder. This shapely and curvaceous Bikini queen has come a long way since those days, and her competitive history includes 2020 IFBB Bikini International Champion and 2019 IFBB Bikini Olympia Champion. Ace physique photographer J.M. Manion’s photos capture Isa in all her glory in “Isa Pecini: From Bulimia to Bikini Olympia Champion!”
