MD Canada is Back!

As I promised before MD Canada was going to bring you some of the hottest contest coverage from all provinces of the Great White North. Nothing like starting this off with a bang by bringing you the best from the Atlantic coast. MD Canada is growing like never before and will be featuring content from all areas.

Nova Scotia shows us the Goods

A record 234 Physique Athletes from all across Atlantic Canada battled a late spring storm to strut their toned and fit bodies at Casino New Brunswick this Easter weekend in celebration of the 37th Annual Atlantic Classic Championships.

In a friendly competition between Nova Scotia, PEI, New Brunswick and Newfoundland, it was Nova Scotia that walked away with top honors winning four out of the five overall titles along with 10 category wins. In a competition dominated by Nova Scotia athletes, New Brunswick could only manage to scrape up 5 category wins, Prince Edward Island 3, and the best Newfoundland being shut out.

Prince Boabang Takes the Overall Bodybuilding Title

The flagship of the Atlantic Championships has always been the Men's Bodybuilding Overall title. This year we saw Middleweight Fredericton's Aidan Sterritt the sole New Brunswick class winner to face Heavyweight Prince Boabang,

Light Heavyweight Daniel Vautour and Lightweight John Parsons, all from Nova Scotia in the final Overall pose down.

When the judge's scores were added up it was former Nova Scotia Provincial Champion Prince Boabang who came out on top being awarded to take the Overall Atlantic Championships title. You may remember Prince from from the 2014 Canadian Nationals where he placed second in his class. He is one of the hottest up and comers to the sport and you can look forward to some awesome “In the Trenches”videos coming from him in the near future.

The Physique Division was Dialed In

In the popular Men's Physique divisions it was another Nova Scotia clean sweep with the Overall title going to newcomer Erik Bywater. With clear cut lines and conditioning he destroyed the competition with ease.

The newly created Women's Physique division saw Moncton, New Brunswick's shapely Denise Smith, coming back after a ten year layoff to win the title. Denise won the Overall Atlantic Women's Bodybuilding Championship title back in 2005.

New Brunswick's Dominates Women's Figure

In the Women's Figure Overall Division it was Kingsclear's Allison Hill making her return to the stage by winning the Figure tall class category and represented New Brunswick in the final pose off against last years champion Karen Liiva and short class winner Lacey Ruston both of Nova Scotia.

This was Hill's first show in several years where she took time off from the competition stage to have three babies. When the smoke cleared it was Liiva's athletically toned physique that stood victorious in repeating her overall win of last year. The women's Figure Grandmaster Division (over 45 ) was won by New Brunswick's Christine McDonald from Saint John.

Bikini was Locked and Loaded!

In the final tally it was the popularity of women's bikini that contributed to the shattering of the record with 111 bikini competitors distributed among 6 divisions. This included a newly created masters class open to women over 35.

In the final pose off New Brunswick's Class B winner Monique Leger faced Nova Scotia’s Melissa Cromwell (Class A winner), Amber Tobin (Class C Winner) Tiffany Laing (Class D) along with PEI's Kat Delima (Class E) winner. In spite of the fierce competition from the larger class winners it was the petite Melissa Cromwell who shone taking the Overall Bikini title.
