5 Reasons Why Phil Heath Should Return

By Steve Blechman

I have to say that after reading Giles Thomas’ article in the August issue of MD, “Phil Heath’s Gift for Greatness –Will 7-Time Mr. Olympia Compete Again?”, in which Giles explains that Phil is at a fork in the road in his life and career and wonders which road he will take, that my gut feeling is that Phil will compete this year. On social media recently, Phil stated clearly: “I haven’t said I’m retired, guys.” After reading Giles’ article, my prediction that Phil will compete in 2020. It would be great for bodybuilding and the Olympia. Here are five reasons why Phil should return:

1. His Legacy: Phil would tie Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman for eight Mr. Olympia titles!

2. The Prize Money. Last year’s winner, Brandon Curry, was awarded $400K for first place at the 2019 Mr. Olympia.

3. Redemption. After losing his title in 2018 to Shawn Rhoden.

4. His dietary supplement line and other endorsements would benefit from a win!

5. He’s still young! On December 18, 2020, Phil Heath turns 41 years of age. If he won, his birthday would take place on Olympia Weekend! That would be a great birthday present!
