NPC Natural Ohio 2014 Press Release

By March 29^th, it’s already “officially” springtime, however, the conditions on this particular day in northeastern Ohio was definitely not “spring like” weather. Cleveland, Ohio winters can be rough and the winter of 2014 was no exception. The day started out with sunny skies but by the evening, 6 inches of the white stuff (aka, SNOW) fell on the “best location in the nation” (a Clevelander’s bragging phrase, but other’s might not share that viewoint). Like the mailman, neither rain, nor sleet, or snow could stop this record breaking contest! On March 29th, 2014 at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio, former NPC national competitor Dave Liberman promoted the 2014 “Nutrition Pit” NPC Natural OHIO (open) Drug Tested Bodybuilding, Physique, Figure, Bikini Championships & Expo, along with co-promoter Todd Pember.

             As cold as it was outside, the heat was definitely ON in the Lakewood Civic Auditorium as an incredible 407 competitors (NOT including crossovers), of the very best natural, drug-free competitors in the Midwest and beyond hit the stage! This was one of the largest NPC regional competitions in the Midwest, attracting athletes from 20 states across the country. The morning Prejdging and evening Finals also set a personal record for this contest with sell out crowds of 1,800 fans filling the seats during both Prejudging and 1,800 attending the Finals. More amazing than the capicity crowd and enormous amount of competitors braving the weather was the fact that the contest was over by 10:30 PM! Add into the equation that ALL 407 competitors were introduced and posed at the evening Finals, there was a contest opening (introducing all Figure & Bikini competitors), American Cancer Society check donations, TWO 2013 Olympia champions guest posing, and a 20 minute Intermission, with all that being said, the contest wraping up by 10:30 PM was an increadible feat! Huge props goes to NPC Ohio state chairman, Rick Bayardi and his awesome “A-Team” as the judging and expediting team under Rick’s direction is the best in the business. Another vital team mate was Master of Ceremonies, Mike Lackner, who kept the event moving in a swift and entertaining fashion! These people are why the NPC/IFBB produces the very best events in the industry.

             A very strict and expensive urine drug test was administered to the top 3 and 2 random competitors in each class. This is the same drug test used in the Olympic Games. It can detect the use of anabolic steroids, diuretics and clenbuterol (an illegal fat-loss drug) for up to one year.

             Features making this contest special included all 407 competitors performing their routines during the evening Finals and everyone (from 1^st to last place) receiving competitor awards, a contest T-shirt, gym bags, Veggie Tote Systems draw string bags, Optimum Nutrition / ABB samples, GNC Beachwood Mall - shakers and samples , ProFight samples, GLC Direct literature and samples, Beckham breakfast bars, Max Muscle samples, GNC red bags and samples, Panthera samples, Gamma Labs and samples, MRI samples, Muscle Sentry samples, Beverly International News Magazines, Quest Nutrition bars, Pinnacle Chiropratic literature, goodie bags filled with free products from Pure Protein, & MET-Rx ,with each athlete receiving Met-Rx bars, The Vitamin Shoppe bottled water, Gaspari Nutrition draw string bags and samples, Advocare samples, Last 1 Standing literature, BSN samples, Monster Milk / Cytosport samples, Cellucor samples, AI Sports Nutrition samples, OneBode` samples, Cyborg Supplements samples, and Ultra Trained - Personal Training by Mr. Ohio Dave Liberman luggage tags. The top 5 received impressive awards including 6` class winning trophies and overall champions received towering 7’.5” trophies, along with contest title weight belts and jackets. Souvenir programs listing every competitor’s name, respective class, city and state, along with full-page advertisements for every sponsor, were given to all the athletes, judges, sponsors and everyone attending the evening Finals.

             As with all of Liberman and Pember contests, $1,000.00 of the proceeds was donated to the American Cancer Society. Additionally, sponsors and competitors are always welcome to be a part of this extremely important charity. Dr. Debbie Freeman (Dr. Freeman, 60, who, along with top NPC figure competitor, Linda Reho, co-own a women’s athletic clothing line, “Infinity Designs”) contributed $500.00 to the American Cancer Society. Total amount donated was $1,500.00! Dave and Todd remain committed to this charity and will continue to support the American Cancer Society at all of their future NPC competitions.

 At last year’s competition, guest poser 3 X MR. OLYMPIA , PHIL HEATH, was so well received by the Cleveland fans, he was hired again for this event! Excited to have the current MR. OLYMPIA once again guest posing, Liberman and Pember took notice of the ever growing trend of the women’s side of the sport at their NPC events. Seeing that over half the competitors at most NPC events are now women, these promoters decided to get a top IFBB Pro female to guest perform. Experiencing the popularity of the 2013 WOMEN’S PHYSIQUE OLYMPIA CHAMPION, Dana Linn Bailey (aka, “DLB”), at Liberman and Pember’s previous Fall contest, both felt that hiring her again would be a huge draw for the fans! In addition to Phil Heath & DLB’s guest posing, both Olympia Champions hosted a SEMINAR (taken place after Prejudging) which drew 200+ fans! If that wasn’t enough Olympia Champions for the fans, making appearences in the Expo were also the 2013 MEN’S PHYSIQUE OLYMPIA CHAMPION, MARK ANTHONY (courtesy of “Allmax Nutrition”) and the 2013 BIKINI OLYMPIA CHAMPION, ASHLEY KALTWASSER (courtesy of “Liquid Sun Rayz”)! The extreme amount of fans lined up, filling the Expo area (needless to say, sponsor vendors were VERY happy!) with endless lines that wrapped around the venue into the parking lot, and around the building! The Northeast Ohio fans could not get enough of the FOUR 2013 OLYMPIA CHAMPIONS under ONE roof!!

 After witnessing the fans’ response to DLB, Liberman and Pember wasted no time in securing DANA LINN BAILEY to Guest Pose at next Spring’s event! DLB will be performing a SEMINAR following Prejudging! Additionally, ROB BAILEY will be joining his wife along with their infamous “Flag Nor Fail” clothing line booth! All this excitement takes place at next year’s March 28th, 2015 “Nutrition Pit” NPC Natural Ohio (open) Drug Tested Bodybuilding, Physique, Figure & Bikini Championships.
