Carnivor: The Real Game Changer

Vegan and plant-based diets are making headlines these days, with bogus, plant-based hamburgers and meats being sold by fast-food restaurants as health-conscious consumers explore alternative, plant-based protein sources. Many people have the impression that plant based meat is a healthier alternative to lean meat. The main source of fat in many of these plant-based meat products is coconut oil, a highly saturated fat. How do bodybuilders, or anyone who wants to build quality muscle and size, fit into this picture? Not too well, if you take a good, hard look at the documentary called “The Game Changers,” a movie about the benefits of a vegan, vegetarian/plant-based diet for athletes. The half-baked film erroneouslyargues that an animal diet including meat, dairy, eggs and fish has a negative effect on athletic performance— and that you don’t need animal protein for optimal muscular development or growth. That’s a crock of bull. And speaking bulls, there is indeed a game changer for bodybuilders but it’s a decidedly beefy option: Carnivor™, the clinically backed beef protein isolatefrom MuscleMeds.

Why Vegan Is Less Anabolic

Research has clearly shown that vegetarian diets are less anabolic than animal proteins and lower mTOR, a protein kinase that regulates protein synthesis and cell growth in response to growth factors, nutrients, energy levels and stress. Vegetarian diets also lower insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), an anabolic hormone that also activates growth hormone (GH) action. Vegan diets have also been shown to lower testosterone, especially when combined with high-intensity, endurance exercise of long duration. It was recently reported in the journal Nutrients on August 7, 2019 that plant protein has less of a muscle building and anabolic effect due to lower digestibility and essential amino acids, including the branched-chain amino acids, especially leucine. Meat proteins are much more anabolic than plant proteins and have a bigger impact on elevating key growth regulators such as mTOR, IGF-1 and testosterone. Meat is also the richest natural source of creatine, an inhibitor of myostatin that can promote muscle growth and enhance exercise performance. Plants do not contain creatine. The standard for measuring protein quality is called the digestible indispensable amino acid score (DIAAS). Animal proteins such as meat, milk (including whey protein) and eggs have higher DIAAS values than plant proteins (British Journal of Nutrition, February 24, 2020). [The science and controversy over “The Game Changers” is covered in greater detail in this month’s MD Rants on page 14.]

The Real Game Changer for Building Muscle

Now that we have totally bitch-slapped the idea that athletes and bodybuilders should be consuming a vegan or plant-based diet for optimal muscle growth, let’s take a closer look at the real game changer for building muscle, Carnivor™. Beef protein isolate can be a superior protein alternative to other proteins that promotes lean muscle and strength (Sharp et al., 2017). Researchers also demonstrated that beef supports mTOR activation relative to whey protein— a key molecular signal that increases muscle protein synthesis (Detzel et al. 2015, ISSN Poster). Beef protein isolate is more concentrated in amino acids than whey. Carnivor™ Beef Protein Isolate is hydrolyzed for fast absorption so muscle growth is fueled quickly, and is lactose free so it’s ideal for people who are lactose intolerant or can’t digest whey protein. Finally, there’s no fat or cholesterol with Carnivor™.

Why Vegans Are Having a Cow

If you’re a bodybuilder or anyone who is serious about putting on lean muscle, look at the science that demonstrates beef is a powerful food that can be used to spur muscle growth and anabolism in athletes.

Carnivor™ Beef Protein Isolate is the real game changer for building muscle. Carnivor™ is the world’s first and best-selling pure beef protein isolate and free of saturated fat! Carnivor™ Beef Protein Isolate delivers all the muscle-building powers of beef and more, with greater branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) levels, alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) and creatine.
