Rick Collins: the Legal Boss of Bodybuilding

Installed as President of Nassau County Bar Association

Rick Collins, JD, CSCS is the undisputed legal boss of bodybuilding. Collins is the country’s foremost legal authority in the area of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) and supplements, and the lawyer that members of the bodybuilding, fitness and nutritional supplement industry turn to when they need legal help or representation. Now Collins, who also serves as the official legal advisor to the International Federation of BodyBuilding (IFBB) Pro League and as general counsel to the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), is the boss of the largest suburban bar association in the United States, having recently been installed as the 117th president of the Nassau County Bar Association.

Collins, founding partner of the Mineola, New York-based law firm Collins Gann McCloskey & Barry PLLC, is one of the longest contributing writers for Muscular Development, where his “Busted: Legal Q&A” column is published monthly and online at musculardevelopment.com. Collins has defended cases involving steroids, human growth hormone, peptides and other anabolic substances from coast to coast. His firm is the most well-known legal team in the sports nutrition field, and assists clients worldwide, including Mr. Olympia competitors, on regulatory and legal issues related to dietary supplements and natural products. Collins has competed as a bodybuilder, worked as a fitness coach and co-owned a personal training business in addition to his legal career.

“Muscular Development congratulates Rick Collins and we are honored to have his expertise among the industry insiders who make MD the leader in bodybuilding multimedia publishing,” said Steve Blechman, Editor-in-Chief of Muscular Development Media and President/CEO of Advanced Research Media, Inc.

Collins, a 25-year member of the Nassau County Bar Association, has served on a number of its committees, and was elected director and chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee and the Publications Committee. He was recognized by New York Metro Super Lawyers for the past four consecutive years, has an AV-rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Directory of Lawyers, and was named “Top Legal Eagle” in 2018 for criminal defense by Pulse magazine.

“My goal as president is to make the Nassau County Bar Association stronger through unity and collaboration,” Collins said.

In 2001, Collins was honored with the Nassau County Bar Association’s President’s Award for revamping the Nassau Lawyer newspaper while serving as its editor-in-chief. He has also served as president of the Criminal Courts Bar Association of Nassau County and president of the former Assistant District Attorneys of Nassau County.
